Dr. Jennifer Herbold earned her B.A. degrees in English and Secondary Education, and a master’s degree in Deaf Education, from Gallaudet University. She began her career teaching English to middle school students at the New Mexico School for the Deaf (NMSD) while pursuing her Ph.D. in Language, Reading, and Culture at the University of Arizona. Over the years, she transitioned from teaching to becoming a specialist and later moved into various administrative roles. She currently serves as the 10th Superintendent of NMSD.
Dr. Herbold's introduction to the Center for Compassionate Awareness at CEASD 2023 deeply resonated with her, inspiring her to become fully involved. After becoming a Master Practitioner, she furthered her expertise through the Center’s Holding Space Program and has since worked to integrate these practices into NMSD's culture.
Outside of work, Dr. Herbold enjoys reading, knitting, woodworking, traveling, and spending time with her family.
