Nancy Hlibok Amann, Ph.D., is the Director of State Special Schools and Services Division at the California Department of Education. She oversees the California School for the Deaf-Fremont, the California School for the Deaf-Riverside, the California School for the Blind in Fremont, and three diagnostic centers in Fremont, Fresno, and Los Angeles.
A New York City native, she holds BA and MS degrees in Government and Administration from Gallaudet University and a Ph.D. in Bi-Literacy and Reading from the University of Arizona. Nancy started her career at the Arizona State Schools for the Deaf and the Blind, eventually becoming Assistant Superintendent there. In 2013, Nancy moved to San Diego with her family, founded a literacy-based camp for deaf children in Southern California and then became California School for the Deaf-Riverside's superintendent. She held that position for six years before moving into her current position at the California Department of Education.
